THIS COURSE SHOWS YOU VERY CLEARLY HOW TO DO THAT :-)
A short course for students who feel finding ideas for Task 2 writing is a problem for them or want tips and patterns for task 1. The course will give plenty of opportunity to discuss topics and develop ideas and practice in writing to time. There will be several marked writings set for homework
Students should be studying or have completed an Upper-intermediate course in order to get the most from this course.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify key grammar structures for both task 1 and task 2
- Identify key vocabulary areas to study for various task 1 and task 2 topics
- Develop study skills for task 2 vocabulary and ideas
- Understand exam assessment criteria for task 1 and task 2
- Learn and use and writing process/templates for task 1 and task 2
- Develop writing technique to complete task 1 and task 2 within time-limit
Course outline:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 2-5pm for 5 weeks = 45 hrs.
or
Everyday, Monday-Friday 8-11am for 3 weeks = 45hrs.
- Question analyses and critical thinking
- Useful study techniques for vocabulary
- Clear guidance and advice on grammar to use and revise
- Task 1 structure - line; pie; bar; table; process; diagram; map + exceptions such as future prediction in maps
- Task 2 writing structure and templates to use in the exam - cause/effect/solution; agree/disagree; discuss; other mixed question forms
- Brainstorming ideas for topics
- Warnings on what NOT to say
- Advice on how to use academic language
- How to develop vocabulary and ideas for common topics
- Techniques to speed up your writing
- Timed writing in class and advice on how to manage time
